Volunteer of the Year recipient Ken Williams draws a crowd

ABERFOYLE 50ȻƵ Fans of Ken Williams crammed into the Puslinch council chamber on May 1 to see the long-standing Optimist Club member receive the township’s Volunteer of the Year award.

Staff brought extra chairs from the fire hall next door to accommodate almost 50 people, who later squeezed together for a photo outside the municipal office.

Williams joked with Mayor James Seeley that he50ȻƵs more popular than the mayor.

50ȻƵThis is the best turnout you50ȻƵve ever had,50ȻƵ Williams said.

A longtime resident of Puslinch, Williams, is also a member of the Optimist Club of Puslinch and is credited with spearheading numerous projects in the township, including the Optimist Recreation Centre and Family Day and Canada Day events.

50ȻƵIn 1976, Ken had a vision,50ȻƵ said Optimist Club president Gregg Allan.

50ȻƵKen thought the township needed something for youth and he chartered the Optimist Club.

50ȻƵEverywhere you look in Puslinch, you see Ken50ȻƵs fingerprints.50ȻƵ

Allan called Williams a 50ȻƵvisionary50ȻƵ, an 50ȻƵinspiration50ȻƵ and a quiet, humble family man 50ȻƵwho doesn50ȻƵt understand 50ȻƵno.50ȻƵ50ȻƵ

50ȻƵWe are proud and fortunate for all you50ȻƵve done,50ȻƵ added Seeley.

Williams said he doesn50ȻƵt do the work for the recognition, but it50ȻƵs certainly nice to get it.

50ȻƵWe enjoyed every minute of what we50ȻƵve done the past 50 years,50ȻƵ Williams said.
